Face complicated conversations

SUITABLE FOR

All those who want to learn how to deal emotionally with complicated conversations.

BENEFITS

Reflect on and work with tools that enable constructive emotional approach to complicated conversations.

  • Emotional self-management
  • Development of empathy and assertiveness
  • Connection with one's own needs and those of others
WHAT WE WILL DO

We will divide this workshop into 2 sessions. In them we will learn how to deal emotionally with difficult conversations, and learn to enjoy them.

We will practice assertiveness, to build the speech and practice it in role-playing to develop self-confidence.

1st Session: Emotional approach to difficult conversations:

  • The impossible agreement: negotiation challenge (case of oranges). Learnings from the dynamic: an agreement can only be reached by showing interest in the other, listening, asking questions, empathizing and putting judgments aside. Working with these tools helps in managing complicated conversations.
  • React vs. Respond: between the stimulus and my response there is a space for self-management. We share tips & best practices to foster better emotional self-management.
  • Iceberg technique: powerful tool that helps to analyze the different levels of each participant in a complicated conversation (behaviors / emotions / values / needs). It is put into practice in groups with real cases to better understand each other and the other before approaching a complicated conversation.
  • Launching into complicated conversations: each participant defines his/her action plan on his/her real case: What are my fears? My needs? Yours? What will be my first step? It is shared with a buddy with whom to share between the 2 sessions.

2nd Session. Practicing complicated conversations:

  • Structuring my speech according to my needs: the D4 methodology to structure the conversation and share my needs is presented and practiced. Role playing.
  • Assertiveness as an act of kindness: collective reflection on assertiveness (starting with my own needs, the act of knowing how to ask, articulating your needs with those of others, communicating, attitude, etc.).
  • The assertiveness barometer - a path between passivity and aggressiveness: role playing where each group will use an assertiveness barometer (positioning the performance between Passivity - Assertiveness - Aggressiveness). Good practices on assertiveness as a communication competence will be shared and learned.
  • Peer coaching: sharing my action plan with a buddy to continue working together after the 2 sessions.
